FLOWER MOUND, Texas (AM News Net)  –  High school football fans endured near freezing temperatures Friday night to witness a dramatic duel between cross-town rivals Flower Mound (2-3) and Marcus High School (2-3). The annual rivalry of course had to draw crowds despite the weather. Just last year, almost to the day, the Marauders defeated the Jaguars on home-turf 48-45 in a double overtime thriller.

Flower Mound quarterback Jackson Averitt suffered a season-ending knee-injury earlier in the year, and Blake Short took on his role for the showdown.

Flower Mound entered the game with 27.6 points per game with an average of 294.9 yards gained per game, a stronger offense than Marcus’ 20.6 points on average and about 30 less yards.. But defensively the Marauders came onto the field Friday night allowing only 317.4 yards per game and allowing 3 less points.

The Jaguar offense proved dominant, leading 10-0 into the half, and eventually coming out on top with a 17-10 win over the Marauders to take control of the Mound and contend for a playoff spot.
