DALLAS (AM News Net) – The Auburn Tigers softball team has broken four team records this past season, along with over a dozen individual records. "The 2016 campaign went down as the best season in Auburn softball program history to date," a Tiger press release says. "Numerous feats were reached that had never been accomplished on The Plains." The 2016 team now sits on 58 wins, more than any other of the Auburn teams in history. The 2015 team had 56 wins. Further, the latest team and second place WCWS finalists earned 556 runs, 30 more than last year. The Tigers this year also managed to break their records of amount of RBI's in 2015 and Hit By Pitches. For individual records, junior Kasey Cooper dominates the statistics. Cooper now has 96 hits, ten more than Tiffany Howard had in 2015. Cooper also recorded 83 RBI's, taking Emily Carosone's 2015 record of 80 RBI's. Cooper now holds the Auburn record for home runs with 21 dingers. For overall career records, Emily Carosone now has the started in the largest amount of games. Previously, Morgan Estell (2011-15) started 250 games. Carosone broke this record by one, and has now started 251 games in her Auburn softball career. Carosone overcame Estell yet again in runs scored. Carosone now holds the record with 267 runs, compared to Estell's 261. In addition, the pitching staff seems to have had success this season. The Tigers totaled 19 shutouts, the most since 2008, and have improved performance in the circle. "Opposing hitters only batted .225 off Tiger pitching, which is the best the staff has produced since 2012 (.204)," the press release says. "Numerous attempts to break more records are still in progress. All the stats and records broken can be found here. © 2016 AM News Net. All rights reserved.
