Photos: Mound Showdown Goes to Double OvertimePosted 10/22/16, 9:21 AM CST
FLOWER MOUND (AM News Net) – The rivalry between Marcus and Flower Mound is a huge one. Just last night, students at the 2016 Mound Showdown were sticking to the very end, holding up signs, and even rushing the field after the game. The feelings were understandable, considering the playoff tie. Both teams were vying for the final fourth playoff spot, and with Marcus winning, it is likely Flower Mound will have to win its final two games for a chance at the playoffs. Although winning in the beginning, Flower Mound suffered in the second half, but managed to hold on throughout to take the game into double overtime. The Marcus Marauders still pressed on, and won 48-45. Flower Mound first got on the board in the first quarter via a 29 yard touchdown pass by Jackson Averitt. The Jaguars scored again in the second quarter, only this time by a 41 yard touchdown pass to Billy Seykora, resulting in a 14 point lead. The Marauders responded with two touchdowns that quarter, but with one extra point being blocked. Both teams went into the locker rooms at halftime, Flower Mound up 21-13. The game, and cheering, only became more intense in the last parts of the game. The Marauders took the lead, but a Flower Mound Pick-six tied the game at 35-35. Marcus managed to try one more drive, with 4:04 left in the game. With 45 seconds left, the Marauders recovered a fumble and then tried for a field goal with 11 seconds on the clock. The shot was blocked, which lead into double overtime. Marcus finished the game 48-45, now having won the Mound Showdown another year in a row.
