Three South Carolina Women's Basketball Players Picked in WNBA Draft

DALLAS (AM News Net) – Last week's WNBA Draft in New York resulted in three South Carolina Gamecocks being picked up in the first round. Nine players from the program have now been chosen in South Carolina Gamecocks history. Senior Alaina Coates was the second player picked by the Chicago Sky. Juniors Allisha Gray and Kaela Davis, who helped the Gamecocks win a national title at the 2017 NCAA Women's Final Four in Dallas, will be returning to the Metroplex, each being chosen by the Dallas Wings, fourth and tenth, respectively. Alaina Coates, the field goal percentage leader in program history (.620) and leading in career defensive rebounds (850), finished her collegiate career netted over 1,500 points and the first Gamecock since the 1980-1981 season to record 50 double-doubles in her entire career. Kaela Davis, who transferred to South Carolina from Georgia Tech, averaged 15.5 points per game in the 2017 Women's Final Four. Allisha Gray shot 51% from the field and helped the Gamecocks with 2.5 assists per game and scored double-digits in 29 of South Carolina's 37 games. "Thank you everybody," Gray said on Twitter. "Once again I don't wanna [sic] leave anybody out but thanks to everybody that has supported me lets [sic] continue to the WNBA."
