ARLINGTON (AM News Net)  –  The Texas Rangers (49-52) have been in a precarious position this season. A multitude of losses, followed by a few wins that started to even out the Rangers' win-loss record gave hope to the Texas team. An American League wild card spot was in sight.

A 10-4 win on Tuesday against the Marlins (46-53) further emboldened them. However, a shocking 22-10 loss on Wednesday's night game of the home series set the Rangers back. The blow now requires that the Rangers have to unseat Minnesota, Seattle, Tampa Bay, and either Kansas City or the Yankees to make a playoff berth.

The blow was not a good one either. Rangers' pitcher Yu Darvish, who may be traded, threw the first pitch to Miami's Dee Gordon, which ended up being a home run and the first this year. Darvish also allowed another home run and ten runs before being pulled, the worst performance in his career.

The bleeding only worsened. The Marlins earned another nine runs in the fourth inning.

Adrian Beltré started to give hope for the team, hitting a home run and two other extra-base hits, making the 3,000 career hit mark even closer. Beltré reached 2,996 hits, and while some fans thought perhaps there was a chance he could hit 3,000 that game, was later ejected for an incident with the umpire.

The umpire told Beltré to move back onto the on-deck circle, so the third baseman from the Dominican Republic dragged the circle back to where he was standing in a comical move. The umpire promptly threw the ejection signal, and later ejected Texas manager Jeff Banister after arguing with the decision.

Though the Rangers managed to turn around their offense, they will have to fix their defense.

"As far as tonight, look, offense put some runs on the board, got sideways on the pitching side of it," Manager Jeff Banister said. "There are going to be nights like that. They're all going to lay their head down tonight, they'll have an off-day tomorrow. They'll show up ready to play."

The Rangers will begin a home series against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday starting at 7:05 PM. Andrew Cashner (5-8, 3.64 ERA) will start, pitching against the Birds for the second time within two weeks.
