San Antonio Stars Look at Spurs for TrainingPosted 10/09/16, 10:10 AM CST
SAN ANTONIO (AM News Net) – The San Antonio Stars have been looking at the Spurs during training recently, hoping to take some notes down for their next season. Although the WNBA regular season ended two weeks ago, the Stars staff are already looking towards next season, now that they have secured the first overall draft pick for the 2017 season. Stars player Kayla McBride, general manager Ruth Riley, and the assistant coaches have been at the Spurs practice facility to observe the Spurs training. Stars assistant coach Vickie Johnson commended Spurs coach Gregg Popovich on his training methods. "What strikes me the most about Coach [Popovich] is the way he has his players think the game and not just play it," Johnson said in an interview with Spurs.com. Coach Johnson reportedly took 30 pages of notes, and the Stars were looking heavily into the weight room, where NBA trainers gave them hints on the science of sports medicine and how to step up their game next season. The Stars finished last in WNBA standings last season with seven wins and 27 losses. WNBA playoffs continue tonight at 3:00 PM ET in Minneapolis. The Minnesota Lynx take on the Los Angeles Sparks at the Target Center. © 2016 AM News Net. All rights reserved.
