Vanessa Shippy Nominated for OSU Athlete of the YearPosted 07/20/17, 12:07 PM
(AM News Net) – OSU infielder Vanessa Shippy has been nominated to be the athlete of the year at Oklahoma State according to a Big 12 Conference release. Shippy, a junior from Idaho, made the All-American and All-Big 12 first teams in 2017. The junior, leading the team with a .398 average, had 48 runs scored to go with 46 RBI. The batting average is the ninth best out of the entire program's single-season list and ranks her third in a junior's batting average in program history. Her slugging percentage is .613. Not surprisingly, the Cowgirls' main batter started in all 173 games she played in. Just this season she played in 63 contests, a single-season record at OSU. Shippy, also an Academic-All-American, finished her 2017 season in a post-season match against WCWS finalists Florida in Gainesville. Shippy, at bat twice in the first game, recorded one hit and the only one that game. A winner-take-all match later on allowed Florida to advance. With 111 bases tallied in just the 2017 season, Shippy can lay claim to being ranked sixth in Cowgirl softball history for that category. Fans will be able to vote for their favorite players from the 23rd to the 25th. More college sports news can be found here. © 2017 AM News Net. All rights reserved.
