Plano East Basketball Beats Flower Mound By 1 in Anticipated GamePosted 01/13/16
by Anthony Mazur Plano East came to Flower Mound last night for a highly anticipated district match. Last year, both teams played each other in a triple overtime playoff game and before that, the two teams were conflicted due to the notorious “White Power” incident, where Flower Mound students held up signs spelling “White Power” and used racial slurs to taunt Plano East, along with defecating on the Plano East bus. The incident is still remembered, as shown by satiric tweets from Plano East players:
However, the the game was calm, and the crowds were small in number for both sides, likely due to the fact that it was a Tuesday night during the week Flower Mound High School scheduled its final exams.
Flower Mound started ahead, but at the end of the first quarter, Plano East scored a 3-pointer, and started the second quarter with 20-16 lead. Flower Mound was able to close the gap by the halftime, only down 37-35. Despite slight disapproval from Flower Mound Head Coach Eric Littleton with the referees for not calling some plays, the Jaguars were able to gain the lead at the end of the third quarter, with junior Adam Dworsky making a buzzer beater for a 54-49 lead. Towards the end, Plano East took the lead again, and a string of fouls gave the Panthers a 59-58 lead, along with limiting Flower Mound to only a few seconds to make a play. Adam Dworsky tried to get the ball down the court, but the Panthers defense made him trip up, ending the game with a one point lead and, and a first place spot in District 6-6A according to the Dallas Morning News. Plano East will play its next game at home against Plano West on 1/15. All photos from the game can be found here. |
