Plano, Marcus Face Off Despite Setbacksby Anthony Mazur
Posted 01/05/16 Plano Senior Girls Basketball won 49-35 over Marcus, despite problems faced by both teams. Marcus Girls Basketball Head Coach Jordan Davis feels her team, who was behind Plano in District rankings, needed to play more consistently. “I think this year coming in, we were learning a new system and everything, and it’s just trying to get that system in place and play the type of basketball consistently that we want to play,” Davis said. “We’ve had some good games and bad games. All three of the Plano schools are really talented schools and you got Flower Mound in there as well and Allen.” To help her team implement their new system, Davis posted different sheets of drills on the arena walls that the posts and guards can read through and practice. “We do a lot of different stuff,” Davis said. “ We’ve done a lot of shooting lately. [The girls] will do some kind of things we put up there [on the wall] that they can practice on their own. We just do a lot of transition, a lot of different offensive stuff, and just a lot of shooting. That’s been one of our things, like missing open shots. [Shooting is] something we want to be more consistent at.” However, during the game, Plano was facing some problems of their own. A brief argument between head coach Belcher and two referees about whether or not he was standing beyond the line delayed the game shortly. Then immediately after, Plano sophomore Lolo Davenport was elbowed in the head and shoulder, resulting in a serious stoppage of play. At halftime, Davenport could be seen with a shirt over her uniform and exiting the arena, where she went to the hospital to make sure she did not suffer a concussion, according to her mother. Despite the injury, the Plano Lady Wildcats managed to push through. The breakdown of the scores by quarter is below: Quarter 1- Plano: 12 Marcus: 7 Quarter 2- Plano: 22 Marcus: 18 Quarter 3- Plano: 36 Marcus: 22 Quarter 4- Plano: 49 Marcus: 35 All photos from the game can be found here. |
