Plano West Softball Defeats Byron Nelsonposted 04/30/16
FLOWER MOUND – Plano West softball (26-3) is officially advancing into the next round of playoffs after winning a series against Byron Nelson (18-11). Before today, the Lady Wolves have won their last 14 games, and have set their sights on advancing further into the playoffs. The Byron Nelson Bobcats, who lost the first game of the series 2-0 on Thursday, were unable to stave off the wolfpack. Plano West started out strong, earning four runs in the first inning. In the second, the Lady Wolves earned another run. The Bobcats managed to regroup and prevent any further runs for the rest of the game, but could not get their own around the bases and to home. “[Our] pitching and defense were there again,” Plano West head coach Mike Ledsome said. “That’s been our strength this year.” Ledsome hopes that the victory means that Plano West will have the opportunity to go farther, now that other top teams last year, such as Lewisville, Denton Guyer, and Flower Mound have been eliminated from the playoffs this year. “This is [our chance],” he said. “We got Keller sitting out there, not next round but round after the next, possibly third round. They are a really good team.” The Lady Wolves, who have been first and second in district all year, will need to work on their hitting before facing an opponent like Keller. “We got to get our hitting going,” Coach Ledsome said. “To win some of these next rounds, we will have to hit the ball.” All photos from the game can be found here. © 2016 AM News Net.
