Aggies Route UT Rio Grande Valley in First Game of Series

COLLEGE STATION (AM News Net) – No. 12 Texas A&M Baseball (10-3) started their series against UT Rio Grande Valley (10-3) tonight. Starting ahead 62-18 in the series history, the Aggies made their bats erupt tonight, taking another win for the record books. Coming off a two game losing streak, the Aggies were glad to be home at Blue Bell Park, where they were 8-1 before tonight in 2017. The Maroon and White, leading the nation in triples (13), routed the Vaqueros in a 16-7 win. The game started with A&M freshman John Doxakis pitching, only to walk a Vaquero, who later ran home after a dropped throw to third. Aggie senior Nick Choruby tied the game, and for most of the innings, the score was shot back and forth. Neither team managed to obtain a substantial, maintainable lead until the Crimson and White erupted in the sixth inning with nine runs to bring the lead to 16-6. The Aggies held on, and after a drawn out ending, won the first game of the series against UT Rio Grande Valley. "We scored seven of those nine runs with two outs," A&M head coach Rob Childress said, referring to the nine runs in the sixth inning. Despite the decisive victory, the Aggies noticed some issues, notably their tired out pitcher John Doxakis. The freshman has been pushed hard, according to Childress, and A&M just returned from a tournament in Houston. "We need to let [Doxakis] hit the reset button and get him fresh again and pitching like he can," Coach Childress said. "That's my fault." The Aggies will finish up their series against UT Rio Grande Valley tomorrow at 3:00 PM. More college sports coverage from AM News Net can be found here. © 2017 AM News Net. All rights reserved.
