Marcus Softball to Fix Mistakes Madeby Anthony Mazur
posted 03/08/16 Marcus softball was swept 7-1 by Flower Mound in yesterday’s district match-up. The Marauders started out keeping the score close. The first and second inning were scoreless for both teams. At the end of the third, both teams managed to get on the board, with Flower Mound only slightly up with a 2-1 score which held there until the fifth inning. However, Marcus was at a four point deficit, down 5-1. In the sixth after Marcus dropped some balls, Flower Mound’s Kellie Wanhanen managed to steal, earning more runs. “[Flower Mound is] very quick and very aggressive on the bases,” Marcus Head Coach Tumilty said. “I think they’re speed and aggression caused us to make several throwing errors in the fifth inning, which led to the five runs that they got.” Tumilty says she was proud that they only gave up one extra base hit by mistake. “Beyond that, we have to be tighter in the infield,” she said. “Flower Mound is known [for] being very quick and very tight on the bases.” Coach Tumilty will be working with the team to take better care when they have the ball. “You can’t make five errors in a game against a team like Flower Mound and expect to come out with a win,” she said. “I think it’s just confidence and taking care of the ball.” Tumilty is trying to remind her players to remain confident throughout the rest of the season and that it’s the mental portion of the game that’s holding them back. “We’ve had success hitting,” she explained. “But now that we’re coming into district play we are playing teams that know us and are smarter and pitching better against us. . . We have to remember that we are good hitters and that we are confident hitters and right now we’re struggling a little bit. . . We just need some wins back to back and I think we’ll be right back in.” Marcus’ next game is away at Plano West tomorrow at 7:00 PM. All photos from the game can be found here. |
