Southlake's McKenzie Nichols Commits to TCUPosted 07/22/16, 5:47 PM CST
SOUTHLAKE (AM News Net) – Southlake Carroll sophomore and TAV Volleyball athlete McKenzie Nichols announced her verbal commitment to TCU yesterday. The sophomore setter, who started playing volleyball at nine years old for a recreational league and was just moved onto the Southlake Carroll varsity volleyball during the 2015-2016 playoffs, announced her verbal decision to the praise of supporters. “I have always liked TCU since my days as a young volleyball camper,” Nichols said. Nichols is particularly fond of TCU Volleyball head coach Jill Kramer, who is the “first scholarship volleyball student-athlete in the history of TCU who still holds the school records in kills, kills per set and total attacks” according to her biography on GOFROGS.COM. Kramer has been credited with the biggest win in program history: a 3-0 sweep of the Longhorns in 2015. “With Coach Kramer and her staff's arrival, the program is set up for success,” Nichols said. “Following my meeting with the coaches and players, I knew this was the place for me.” Nichols explained Kramer has taught her important things in life and for her future in volleyball. She believes Kramer is creating an important environment for future seasons. “Coach Kramer shared with me what it means to be a TCU volleyball player and student,” she said. “She is driving for a culture of teamwork and support with high expectations on the court and in the classroom.” Nichols, although having received tremendous support, faces questions about whether she is getting involved in the recruiting process too early. “My answer is that I have worked hard for this and this is what I have wanted for a while,” she said. “The opportunity is here today and I am excited and honored to be able to say ‘Yes.’” Nichols will continue volleyball looking up to Lisie Kitt and Sheridan Webb, her senior teammates who have also committed to D1 schools. Southlake Carroll will play their first game against Pearce in Richardson on August 8th. © 2016 AM News Net. All rights reserved.
