Baylor Volleyball Pair Named Players of the Week

DALLAS (AM News Net)  –  The Baylor Bears volleyball team has once again landed players in the Player of the Week (POTW) awards. Baylor junior outside hitter Katie Staiger, who won the Offensive POTW award in October, was named it for a fifth time this year, along with teammate junior libero Jana Brusek being named the Defensive POTW, according to a conference release this Tuesday.

Staiger led the conferemce in kills per set (7.75) in addition to recording 31 kills in a single match in a four-set win over Texas Tech in Lubbock.

"The 31 kills were the most by a Big 12 player this season and four shy of the conference single-match record for a four-set match (accomplished twice, 2009 & 1999)," the press release says.

Staiger has been named Offensive POTW before this year on September 12, September 26, October 10, and October 24.

Defensive POTW Jana Brusek recorded an average of eight digs per set last week, the highest in the Big 12 Conference. Brusek also was a part of the back row that did not allow any aces, a first for the 2016 team.

Baylor will continue the second half of their season today with a home game against West Virginia at 1:00 PM.
