Longhorns Fans Hoping for a Win Before Game Against Notre DamePosted 09/04/16, 3:47 PM CST
AUSTIN (AM News Net) – The long awaited game is right on Longhorns fans' doorsteps. At 6:42 PM, the game between the Fighting Irish and the Longhorns will be broadcast live on ABC. The University of Texas expected the game to have record setting attendance. Already, UT has posted a release stating there has already been a sellout in season tickets. "Tickets for the 2016 Texas Football season, which officially opens on Sunday, Sept. 4 [sic] against Notre Dame in Austin, are no longer available," the release says. "Because of the high demand for the Texas vs. Notre Dame game, counterfeit tickets could be circulated. Be cautious buying tickets from a ticket-provider other than Texas or StubHub." The release warns of possible signs of a fake ticket such as mismatched fonts or sloppy edges. The release also warns of legitimate tickets that will not be accepted. "Also, be aware of legitimate tickets that have been voided, and therefore not valid for entry due to being reprinted, reissued, or transferred to another customer." it says. Fans however, are still pumped for a potentially history-changing game and coming out in full force. The crowd sizes are already "huge" according to local reports. Out of all games played together, Notre Dame has bested the Longhorns nine out of 11 times. Texas has not beat Notre Dame since the 1970 Cotton Bowl. In addition to being the third time the Longhorns beat Notre Dame if Texas wins, it will be the first victory against Notre Dame in Austin. Some fans are predicting a good outcome due to the recent passing of the Longhorn Mascot, Bevo XIV, which died in October due to bovine leukemia. Last time one of the mascots died, Bevo XIII in October 2006, the Longhorns went on to defeat USC in the 2005-2006 national championship. "The last time Bevo died, we won a national championship," Robbie Diamond a recent UT Alumnus and fan at the game said. Whether that fact is significant or not to predicting a victory, fans are taking the game seriously. "You don't understand college football until you go to college football," Robbie said. "Professional alliances change throughout life, but college, your college, the one that you always belong to, that's for life and there's no experience different than your college playing in a a big game and that exhilaration for your team to win." A victory would mark be the 887th win in Longhorn Football history and mark their 16th win to start the season in the past 17 years. Last time Notre Dame Football played at Austin, 83,312 fans attended the game. More information about radio and audio coverage, stats, and more can be found here. © 2016 AM News Net.
