ESPYS: Mississippi State Bulldogs Win Best Upset AwardPosted 07/12/17, 9:34 PM
LOS ANGELES (AM News Net) – Arguably, the 2017 Women's Final Four outcome in the semifinal game between Mississippi State and UConn was an unexpected shocker: hero of the Bulldogs, the 5'5" guard Morgan William, sunk a three-point buzzer-beater in overtime against the Huskies, who had a 111 game winning-streak entering the championship, to move onto the final round in Dallas. The unforgettable moment launched the Bulldogs into their first Women's Final Four title game appearance. William scored 13 points that game, and the 66-64 victory marked the first time Mississippi State won against a number one ranked team. William was later named to the All-Final-Four Team in Dallas. This overtime buzzer-beater from outside the three-point, unsurprisingly this time, was named the Best Upset Wednesday night during the 25th annual ESPYs. The Bulldogs will have their fans and other sports enthusiasts to thank for the votes. "We're honored to be awarded the Best Upset at the 2017 ESPYS!," the MSU Women's Basketball tweeted Wednesday night after the news was announced. "We wouldn't be here without our #HailState family!"
