DALLAS (AM News Net) – Last week's NCAA Women's Final Four tournament saw an increase in viewers over TV and online streaming, according to ESPNPR. The three-game tournament drew in 3.8 million viewers, a near 20% increase overall. In addition, the championship game between the South Carolina Gamecocks and Mississippi State Bulldogs saw an increase of 29% in viewers, a double-digit increase compared to the UConn Huskies' last three tournament wins. Part of the increase could be credited to the historic Mississippi State win over top seeded UConn with an OT buzzer-beater from the Bulldogs to advance to the finals. The historic semifinal match had 2,783,000 live viewers, the most in four years. The average of all three games were 2,754,000 live viewers. The first semi-final game between South Carolina and Stanford had 1,518,000 live viewers. Further, 175,000 people streamed the game, a 106% increase compared to 2016. Greenville, South Carolina, also set a local rating record. The South Carolina Gamecocks' coach Dawn Staley was the second African American coach to win a national title. Next year's Women's Final Four will be held in Columbus, Ohio. More college sports coverage from AM News Net can be found here. © 2017 AM News Net. All rights reserved.
