OKLAHOMA CITY (AM News Net) – Auburn senior infielder Kasey Cooper has earned a spot on the USA National softball team for a second year in a row. Cooper is one of the 20 players to make the team after a selection camp in Clearwater, Florida. Cooper, who's .410 career batting average is a record for the Auburn program, passed a four day selection process determined by the Women's National Team Selection Committee. The team will play once again in the World Cup of Softball, hosted in Oklahoma City, and then onto the Olympics in 2020, where softball was added back into the summer games. Auburn will kick off their season with a game against Oklahoma in Mexico on February 9th. The Tigers lost their last game 2-1 to the Sooners in the 2016 WCWS. But, Cooper sees potential in the new recruits to the program to earn the national title this year. “I just love the potential that we see because we have all of these young girls who are trying to come out and earn a starting position and they push everyone,” Cooper said in an interview. “I love the competition that I see on this team and the potential.” A return to Oklahoma City would mark their third WCWS appearance in a row. Cooper also has 57 home runs and 224 RBI's, the most in Auburn softball history. The Tigers' full schedule for the coming season can be seen here.
