Oklahoma Volleyball Sinks TCU in Straight SetsPosted 10/29/16, 3:19 PM CST
NORMAN (AM News Net) – The Oklahoma Sooners (4-6) and the TCU Horned Frogs (3-7) volleyball teams faced off today for a match in the second half of Big 12 regular season play. Both teams being tied at 3-6 and down in sixth of the Big 12 standings meant a need for both teams to do well. Last match between the two teams on October first, the Horned Frogs defeated the Sooners in five sets, however, this time the game was not so close. The Sooners, who were on the road for 10 of their last dozen matches, and who have dropped their last three games before today, ended their losing streak, defeating TCU in straight sets (25-23, 25-11, 25-17). An ace serve from senior defensive specialist Abbie Higgins ended the game, but much of the Oklahoma offense was because of sophomore Madison Drescher. Drescher matched her career-high number of digs (15) and .500 with only a single error. “[Drescher's] been great," head coach Santiago Restrepo said in an interview with Oklahoma Athletic Communications. "It’s hard to get her out of the lineup. Now that it is her time, she has blossomed and done a great job.” Restrepo explained the team's performance in the first set helped the team throughout the rest of the match. “We talk about how we need to close out those close sets and be better in crunch time,” Restrepo said. “Closing out that first set gave us a lot of confidence that we could perform much better and not give away so many points.” Oklahoma will need that confidence for the next game. The Sooners will play next week on November fifth at home against Kansas Jayhawks (8-1), who are sitting in second place of Big 12 standings. TCU will play home on Wednesday against Texas. The Longhorns are currently undefeated in the Big 12. © 2016 AM News Net. All rights reserved.
