Dramatic Game Between Flower Mound & Plano West Leads to Double OTPosted 01/08/16
Flower Mound and Plano West boys basketball went head to head in an epic district match, almost going into triple overtime. The two teams were almost neck and neck the whole game, shocking the crowd with surprise after surprise. From the moment when the captains of each team shook each other's’ hands, mentally, the game was on. In the beginning, Plano West started with the lead, having a 15-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Plano West bumped their score up to 24, while Flower Mound more than doubled their score, finishing the half with 22. Flower Mound was down by one, but they would come back. The Jaguars managed to outscore the Wolves in the third quarter, gaining the upperhand with a 35-33 lead. The fourth quarter was neck and neck. Flower Mound was able to hold a three point margin of 46-43 until the last minute of the fourth quarter. Then, Plano West scored. The fourth quarter ended with a 47-47 tie. After the coaches talked with their teams, the first round of overtime began. After a foul, Plano West managed to gain a three point lead with free throws, and leaving only about five seconds for another play. Flower Mound junior Adam Dworsky saved the day. Dworsky dribbled up the court and shot from 40 feet away. The throw made it in the net at the buzzer. The crowd went wild. From students, to parents, to principals, to the police officers, the arena was erupting with cheers. A second round of over time had to be played. However, a foul by Flower Mound junior John Scully gave the Wolves a scoring opportunity. Despite an attempt at a rally, Flower Mound finished behind by only three points. While the wolves won 64-61, there is no doubt that this game will forever be remembered by Flower Mound students and faculty alike. All photos from the game can be found here. |
