Flower Mound's Sydney Springfield Holds School Home Run Recordby Anthony Mazur
posted 03/30/16 The Flower Mound Lady Jags, who were once first in district, now second (16-3), were looking for an easy win last night. The McKinney Boyd Lady Broncos (3-10), who lost 25-2 last game against Flower Mound, unfortunately was in the middle of Flower Mound and a second place spot in district. While the Jaguars won 11-0 in five innings, the highlight of the night for Flower Mound was senior LSU signee Sydney Springfield realizing she was taking hold of the high school career record of home runs. Springfield hit her 24th home run in the 2nd inning to bring the Jaguars to a 7-0 lead over Boyd. Christy Lisenby, a Baylor softball player, previously held the record with 22 home runs. “Basically every time I go up to bat, I try to have a clear mindset and confidence,” Springfield said. “I always look to see where the runners are and where the defense is set up so I can have a productive at bat.” Not only did Springfield not know she was going to hit a home run, she did not realize she broke a record until her coach told her afterward. “I honestly had no idea I broke the record until Coach Larriba told me at batting practice,” she said. Springfield is glad she can help her team with her batting efforts. She explains she just tries to make solid contact with the ball. Flower Mound’s next game is Friday at Plano. “I can’t wait to see what the rest of the season holds,” Springfield said. “It’s going to be really special.” All photos from the game can be found here. |
