TCU Volleyball Falls to SMUPosted 09/17/16, 11:24 AM CST
FORT WORTH (AM News Net) – TCU Volleyball (6-3) dropped a chance to win a game against SMU (13-5) last night, losing to the Mustangs in four sets. Despite being ahead 9-2 to start the match, and finishing the first set 25-17, the Frogs were unable to follow through the rest of the game. SMU came back to win the last three sets 25-20, 25-19, and 25-20. "I think we were kind of our own worst enemy tonight," TCU Volleyball director Jill Kramer said. "We were high error and that is not to discount SMU. They really fought through that match." Although the Frogs won the first set, they lagged behind offensively. SMU overall had 54 kills, compared to TCU's 46. This game was the eighth this season in which TCU was able to out-block the opponent in a total of nine games. Out of the six blocks this game, four were by seniors Natalie Gower. In addition, junior Kayla Scheevel made a career-high record of 24 digs, the second time this season she has made over 20. "We started out really strong and had a great first set, but then needed to handle being in a tight set better," Kramer said. "It is something we will get better at for sure but this was a tough one to lose." TCU will play today at home against North Carolina to conclude the Horned Frogs Classic at 4:00 PM, something Kramer is looking forward to so the team can improve. "That is what we want," Kramer said. "We want to be better teammates, we want to learn from this and we still have a lot of season ahead of us. There is a whole lot we can gain from this and we just have to make sure we look at it the right way." © 2016 AM News Net. All rights reserved.
