DALLAS (AM News Net) – Florida State senior pitcher Jessica Burroughs has been picked in the first round of the NPF draft last week. Burroughs, who pitched in the WCWS last year, was the number one pick in the first round. Her pick by the USSSA Pride makes her the third Seminole in FSU history to be drafted number one overall. The other two Seminoles are Paul Wilson (1994 - MLB) and Jameis Winston (2015 - NFL). Burroughs has helped her team this year by her throwing in the circle. The Seminoles (24-0) are undefeated in ACC play, the first time a school has done so since 2003. FSU has gone defeated before in 1993, 1995, and 2002 as well. Just last Sunday, Burroughs threw 53 strikes out of 75 pitches against North Carolina, and at one point retired 12 batters in a row. Just this season she has pitched over 149 innings and has 23 wins to 2 losses. Burroughs sits seventh in D1 softball standings for her ERA, which is .98. Alex Powers was also picked by Pride, becoming the tenth overall pick. Powers is in the top five of numerous categories, including slugging percentage,RBI, home runs, walks, and more. “Lonni’s [FSU Softball coach] a tremendous person and a tremendous coach, it’s all about family, it’s all about chemistry and it’s all about the right reasons and we couldn’t have played it any better this year,” USSSA Pride General Manager Don DeDonatis said. The girls still have more college games to play. The Seminoles' final season home game is tomorrow against the Gators at 7:00 PM.
