Flower Mound Baseball Begins PracticePosted 02/02/16
by Anthony Mazur Official practice for UIL baseball started last week, and Flower Mound High School got right to work. The Jaguars started practicing last Friday, and again the next day. The Jaguars were Area champions last year in District 6-6A, and Head Coach Danny Wallace is confident the team can perform just as well this year. “This team has the talent to achieve all of its season goals and can be a very good team come playoff time,” Wallace said. “Our district is very good and teams like Hebron, Marcus, and Plano will all be threats to win the district.” The day started with the team jogging and doing warm-up stretches, and then led to pitching drills. Flower Mound has prided itself with its pitching performance over the last few seasons. This season, Flower Mound has already listed at least four pitchers on its roster. “Our greatest strength the last few years has been the talent on the mound and the depth of our pitching staff,” Wallace said. All of the pitchers so far though are seniors, and Wallace expressed the importance of helping the younger players and working on agility and strength. “We have several new players on the varsity team,” Wallace said. “We have a lot of work to do to learn to play together and communicate during key plays. We work in making all of our players better athletes.” The Jaguars have time to keep training. District play does not start until March 9th with an away game against Hebron. Scrimmages however start on February 8th, and one of which is being played at Globe Life Park. The full schedule for Flower Mound baseball can be seen here. |
