Baylor Volleyball's Katie Staiger Wins Big 12 Offensive POTW AwardPosted 10/24/16, 5:31 PM CST
WACO (AM News Net) – The Big 12 Conference named Baylor junior outside hitter Katie Staiger the Offensive Player of the Week today. Staiger has now been named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week four times this year. "[Staiger's] four offensive awards in 2016 ties for the fourth-most in Big 12 history by one player in a single season, becoming just the fifth player in the conference to earn four or more Big 12 Offensive POTW [sic] honors in a season," a press release says. Staiger is ranked fourth nationally in kills per set and helped the Bears defeat Oklahoma last Saturday, the first Baylor win over Oklahoma since 2008. Staiger also leads in kills, kills per set, points, and points per set in the entire Big 12 Conference this season. The outside hitter from Plano makes 5.39 points per set. The Bears have been making program history as well with the help of the junior. So far, Baylor volleyball's 6-2 start this season ties for the best eight-game start in program history, which was made in 2009. Baylor's next game will be this Saturday in Manhattan, Kansas against Kansas State (5-3) at 7:00 PM. The Wildcats sit just below the Bears in conference standings. © 2016 AM News Net.
