NORMAN (AM News Net) – Oklahoma Athletics have nominated sophomore pitcher Paige Parker for the Big 12 Female Athlete of the Year candidate. Fans will be able to vote July 21-24 to choose who they think is the best female athlete. Parker currently holds the record for the amount of wins in D1 softball. The sophomore Sooner finished with 38 wins this past season, ten more than in her freshman year. She unseated Erica Romero from San Diego State University, who lead with 36 wins. Parker's ERA dropped from 1.65 to 1.64 from last year as well. Parker also led the team to victory in the final game of the 2016 Women's College World Series, defeating Auburn 2-1 to become national champions, their second title in three years. She is also the 2016 Big 12 Pitcher of the Year for the second season in a row. Oklahoma athletics have chosen Buddy Hield, a basketball player, for their male nomination.
