TCU Volleyball Takes Down Oklahoma, Breaks RecordsPosted 10/02/16, 1:21 PM CST
FORT WORTH (AM News Net) – All new records were set yesterday by the TCU volleyball team (10-4) after a 3-2 win (25-18, 21-25, 26-24, 21-25, 15-4) over the Sooners (9-7). This is the third year in a row Oklahoma and TCU went into five sets in Fort Worth. To start, TCU senior Natalie Gower totaled 15 blocks, an individual record while the whole team recorded 23.5, a record not seen in 16 years. I contrast, Oklahoma only managed to block five times. "I think the biggest thing is that it was a really good team effort," TCU volleyball assistant coach Sara Matthews said. "The most special part about this team is that we have anyone that can step up at any time and we have had different people be leaders in different matches." Despite TCU's offensive capabilities being matched with both teams scoring 55 kills, the Frogs continued their defensive domination, and have now out-blocked their opponents 13 out of 14 times this season. "They have done a really good job of playing a team game and no matter if they are on or off, they are sticking with it and doing some really good things," Coach Matthews said. "Our defense was great tonight and I think that was the biggest difference in this match." The Frogs' next game is away this Wednesday at 6:00 PM in Waco versus the Baylor Bears, who sit two spaces below in the Big 12 standings in fourth. © 2016 AM News Net. All rights reserved.
