DALLAS (AM News Net) – Defeated by the Sooners 2-1 to end their season in the 2016 Women's College World Series Final, the Auburn Tigers (2-1) saw their chance for redemption on Thursday. The Tigers defeated number one team in the nation and rival Oklahoma 3-2 in their season stater in Puerto Vallarta for the Triple Crown Tournament. Ironically, it was the Tigers who fell 3-2 to Oklahoma when they met for the first game of the 2016 WCWS. In the second game, Auburn came back after a walk-off grand slam by Emily Carosone. The Sooners finished up the last game 2-2 to become the national champions of 2016. Not in Puerto Vallarta. The 2-1 win in Mexico marked Auburn's third consecutive victory against a top-ranked team. The Tigers earned a run in the first, third, and seventh inning, and the defense held the Sooners at bay, only allowing two runs in the seventh. Auburn sophomore pitcher Makayla Martin, who has experience against Oklahoma in the WCWS, pitched for six innings and allowed seven hits and two runs. Auburn fell to Washington later that night in a second game, but defeated Nebraska 2-0 on Friday. The Auburn Tigers will play in their final game in Mexico against BYU at 11:00.
