Sophomore Quarterback Zach Abey Takes Responsibility for Army-Navy Game

BALTIMORE (AM News Net) – With starting quarterback Will Worth injured in a match-up against Temple just a week before the Arm-Navy game, Midshipmen sophomore Zach Abey was given a special opportunity. The underclassman quarterback, who started out third on the depth chart, was able to play as starting quarterback for the first time in his college football career against the Army Black Knights. Abey was able to lead the team towards comeback late in the game despite a 21-17 loss that ended Navy's 14-game winning-streak, Still, the sophomore quarterback expressed remorse as he took responsibility for the loss. ''I take a lot of responsibility for the game,'' Abey said in the post-game press conference. ''Obviously, in the first half I made some bad decisions. I feel horrible for the seniors. I told them before the game I'd give my all.'' Down for almost the entire game, the Midshipmen scored 10 points unanswered with a touchdown, extra point, and field goal. Later, Abey made a 41 yard rush to score a touchdown with 12:42 left to go in the fourth quarter. "I think we came out in the second half," Abey said. "We were down by a lot. We knew what we had to do to get back in it. I think we all came together well and played our hearts out in the second half." At the end of the game, Abey totaled a net of 73 rushing yards and 89 passing. Abey, who was the only quarterback for Navy the whole game in addition to be the only Navy player to score any touchdowns, also completed six out of 10 passes with two interception. Army's Ahmad Bradshaw completed two out of four with one interception. "It's over now," Abey said. "We just have to focus on the next game." The Navy Midshipmen will play against Louisiana Tech next on the 23rd in the Armed Forces Bowl. More college sports news from AM News Net can be seen here. © 2016 AM News Net. All rights reserved.
