Flower Mound Boys Soccer Starts Season With Aggressive Scrimmage Flower Mound and South Grand Prairie boys soccer started their season today in an aggressive scrimmage, with plays causing bloody noses and disputes. At the end of the scrimmage though, Flower Mound Head Coach David Doyle was pleased in his team's performance.
“[There were] ups and downs,” Doyle said. “Everybody got playing time. Obviously the rotations won't be that free once the season comes around… but I was pleased with what I’ve seen.” There were things that the team could work on however. “[I’m] not pleased with other parts,” Doyle said. “Giving up a two goal lead is not great but [knowing if Flower Mound will get to round 4 playoffs] is hard to tell because [District 6-6A] is a tough district. A new roster may be able to help Flower Mound reach the playoffs. While some players have left last year, a new freshman, Hector Torres, made varsity this year. “He’s just a good player,” Doyle said. “I’ve never kept freshmen down if they’re good enough to play and help us - and he’ll help us on the varsity level.” The aggressiveness of the teams was helpful as well according to Doyle. The scrimmage often had some physical contact and heated calls. “Every call the referee makes, half the people aren’t happy with it,” Doyle said. “So I mean, you’re going to be happy with some and unhappy with others. It’s just part of the game and you move on. You know, obviously, it was a scrimmage so we didn’t throw out cards. It was a good game. [South Grand Prairie was] physical and that’s good for us. We’ll face physical teams down the road. We got to handle a little bet better than we did today, though.” The Flower Mound Jaguars will head to Allen on Thursday. Once district games start, Doyle hopes the Jaguars will be ready for the season. “We’ll see how we do next weekend,” Doyle said. “Hopefully that will make us ready for district.” All photos from the game can be found here. by Anthony Mazur Posted 01/02/16 |
