FORT WORTH (AM News Net) – The Kansas Jayhawks (6-1) will be returning to Kansas victorious after a sweep over TCU volleyball (3-4) tonight, meaning the Horned Frogs lost their final home game in the first half the Big 12 season. The TCU Horned Frogs were already facing a difficult challenge being down in fifth in Big 12 standings, along with facing Kansas, ranked six in the nation. The Jayhawks, who are one of only 13 teams in the nation still with two losses or less. The game, which aired live on FOX Sports Southwest, started with the Jayhawks scoring five points before TCU finally could respond, and ending set one 25-12. The Jayhawks swept the second and third set 25-19 and 25-22, respectively. "It took us a long time for us to get to a point where we were executing our game plan defensively," TCU Volleyball director Jill Kramer said. "We started to digs some balls and pick some good spots blocking wise in the second and third sets." Kramer explained that the first set mishap may have been due to a new lineup. "In the first set, we weren't really on our game plan that well," she said. "We have to get on that quicker. We were also in a little bit different of a lineup tonight and you could see that it affected some of our offensive rhythms." Kansas head coach Ray Bechard, who was named National Coach of the Year according to PrepVolleyball.com, praised his teams defense. "Being physical and organized defensively created a lot of opportunities for us tonight," he said. "That was really great to see." Kansas recorded 12 blocks, three times as many as TCU, along with 70 digs compared to TCU's 54. The teams will continue into the season next week. "We got to get back in the gym with the girls and work on some things there," Jill Kramer said. TCU will play next on Wednesday, the 19th, against Texas. Kansas will play home a day after against West Virginia. © 2016 AM News Net. All rights reserved.
