Sooners Steal Softball Weekly Honors

DALLAS (AM News Net) – Two Oklahoma softball players have earned the Big 12 weekly honors of Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week. Shay Knighten, Oklahoma first baseman and sophomore who already had three home runs this season, earned Big 12 Player of the Week after knocking four more balls out of the park in three games last weekend. Knighten slugs 1.636 with a .583 on-base percentage. Paige Parker, who was named Big 12 Female Athlete of the Year in 2016, also won a weekly honor. The honor for week 9 is the third consecutive weekly award this season for Parker. The junior pitcher who led her team to victory in the 2016 WCWS over Auburn has improved to 17-5 and has not allowed a single run in her past 18 innings.
