Texas A&M Softball Moves to Top Five in NFCA Poll
Posted 03/02/17, 5:11 PM
DALLAS (AM News Net) – The then undefeated Texas A&M Aggies, who won 15 games in a row, have landed themselves in the top 5 of the latest USA Today/NFCA poll this week. Previously ranked #18, the Aggies jumped to fifth place after defeating Florida State, ranked first, and three other top programs in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. Winning all games in the Mary Nutter Classic in Cathedral City, three of which were shutouts, and only allowing three runs, A&M managed to return to fifth place, not done in the program since March 19, 2013, receiving 603 points and five first-place votes in the poll. The Aggies have only lost their first game this season on Wednesday to Houston. "I'm going to talk to the hitters about having a better approach and having a plan up there," Texas A&M head coach Jo Evans said. "We knew she was going to throw the ball down and some change-ups, but we have to be looking for a pitch to hit. Pick a side of the plate you want to hit and drive the ball. I don't think we did that very well at all." Evans think the team played defense well, but will need to work on offense. "We need to be stronger and mentally tougher at the plate so we can take over games when we should take over games," she said. The Aggies will start its last non-conference tournament of the season, the Texas A&M Invite tomorrow. The Aggies will begin play at 3:00 PM against UTSA at the Aggie Softball Complex before a match against Georgetown. More information regarding the full schedule can be found here.
