Marcus Girls Basketball Play Final Home GamePosted 02/03/16
by Anthony Mazur Marcus girls basketball ended their last home game with an emotional win over McKinney Boyd last night. The Marauders were ahead in all quarters. At the end of the first, Marcus was up 16-4. At halftime, the lead increased to 25-8. The Lady Marauders kept pushing in the third for a 42-13 lead. At the end, the final score was 52-21. The last quarter was especially emotional with the crowd cheering for the four playing seniors, who were very emotional, as they subbed out one by one, some of whom for the last time. The seniors hugged their coaches, some crying, and high-fived their teammates. The four seniors on the court described their experience with the team, and what they will be doing down the road. #11 Britney Roden-
Britney will be going to College Station for Texas A&M, but will not be playing basketball.
“I’m sad because it’s over and it’s been a long four years but it’s like I’m moving on to a new phase a life so it’s bittersweet,” she said.

#12 Morgan Hellyer-
“I’m very emotional,” she said. “It’s definitely bittersweet to be the last home game but I’m excited to go on in college basketball.”
Morgan Hellyer will go on to play basketball at Adeplhi University in New York.

#13 Nicole Mackel-
One of Nicole’s best friends is senior Lori Hanlin who couldn’t make it for the season. Nicole will go on to Texas Woman’s University, but not for basketball.
“It’s very emotional because I’ve played with these girls for so many years and it’s hard to part ways,” she said. “It’s going to be really, really hard to part with basketball and I’m always going to miss it.”
Nicole started playing basketball in 7th grade.

#21 Lexi Cushing-
Lexi will continue playing sports and is on the varsity softball team.
“It’s really sad but I’m happy to be moving on,” she said. “I like playing sports in general but I feel I have a better chance in softball, especially in college, to succeed.”
