WNBA's Sue Bird on Win Over Spain in Rio OlympicsPosted 08/09/16, 8:42 AM CST
RIO DE JANEIRO (AM News Net) – The USA Women's National basketball team has set themselves up for victory for the next of the Olympics. WNBA first-team player Angel McCoughtry, 2015 MVP Ellena Delle Donne, ESPYS Woman Athlete of the Year Breanna Stewart, and fellow Seattle Storm teammate Sue Bird have been leading the team to victory despite lacking much desired preparation. The Americans defeated Senegal 121-56 on the second day of the Olympics, and 103-63 over Spain on the eighth. "In terms of preparation time, we didn't really have a lot," WNBA guard Sue Bird said. "We couldn't really go through their plays like we wanted to or talk about our schemes the way we wanted to. So for us to come out and play the way we did, was very good and felt very good." Bird finished the game with nine points, five rebounds, and five assists in the victory over Spain. "We're not looking to any one opponent," Bird said. "We're taking it one day, one game at a time." Bird hinted though that the team may need to find chemistry. "We're so worried about clicking and coming together and developing a chemistry, that I don't even think we're worried about who we are playing as much," she said. "We're trying so hard to make that work, and so far it's been okay." Although going fine okay, the Americans may need to find time to bond before the later rounds. USA basketball can rest today , though. The Women's and Men's teams both are off today. The Women's National team will continue play in Group B tomorrow against Serbia. The men will play in Group A against Australia. © 2016 AM News Net. All rights reserved.
