Kasey Cooper Voted Winner of NCAA Elite 90 ContestPosted 07/22/16, 9:30 AM CST
INDIANAPOLIS (AM News Net) – Auburn softball junior Kasey Cooper was announced the winner of the NCAA Elite 90 Fan Contest yesterday after the War Eagle crowd voted en masse for the infielder. Originally down by over 1,000 votes, Auburn fans managed to make a comeback in the final round of voting. Cooper took 38% of the final count with 6,050 votes.
"In order to be eligible for the award, the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s 90 championships was tabbed as a member of the Elite 90," a press release explains. Fans were then able to vote for their choice over a nine day period. Throughout the year, Cooper maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA and is a Mechanical Engineering major all while breaking seven season program records and four career records to help the Auburn softball program have one of their best seasons. "She paced the nation’s top scoring offense with a .422 batting average, 19 triples, 21 home runs and 83 RBI," an Auburn press release says. Cooper also managed to earn the titles of SEC Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year. No one has ever managed to be named both. Cooper also is the first player in Auburn Softball history to win the NCAA Elite 90 Fan Favorite contest. © 2016 AM News Net. All rights reserved.
