SMU Volleyball Clinches Playoff Spot, Earns Title of American Athletic Conference ChampionsPosted 11/27/16, 10:04 AM
DALLAS (AM News Net) – The SMU Mustangs volleyball team (18-2) has clinched a playoff spot after defeating Connecticut (7-13) in four sets (16-25, 25-11, 25-12, 25-17) on Friday in their final regular season game. The Mustangs also earned the title of American Athletic Conference champions for the second season in a row. SMU head coach Lisa Seifert expressed concern on whether they could clinch the spot due to the difficulty of the last teams they played: Temple and Connecticut. The Mustangs will be one of 32 teams that are automatically qualified for the NCAA single elimination tournament. The rest will be chosen by the Division I Women’s Volleyball Committee. The rest of the selections will be announced on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at 8:00 PM CST on ESPNU during a selection show.
