Flower Mound Head Coach Eric Littleton Warns of Team Mindset

FLOWER MOUND (AM News Net) – The Flower Mound Jaguars (1-0) started their district play off with a win over L.D. Bell last night (0-1), finishing up with a 71-51 score. Although the Jaguars took an early lead after senior Adam Dworsky started by throwing two free-throws after an administrative technical, L.D. Bell responded by scoring five 3-pointers before Flower Mound could respond. The 15 points from the Blue Raiders prompted a 30-second timeout, where Flower Mound Head Coach Eric Littleton talked to the team. "We weren't sharp early," Coach Littleton said, "We came out with no energy. We're on our heels, and that doesn't bode well for us. If it takes me as a coach getting after a group of seniors to get them motivated to play the season-opener in a district game, that's a bad sign. So I'm really disappointed." The team will have to work on its mindset, according to Littleton. "I don't say it often about our kids, but I'm not real pleased with the mindset right now," Littleton said. "There's a complacency that's set in and our seniors have to take up and take control of that." Littleton expects the team to step up their game and take responsibility. "We have great senior leadership on this team," Littleton said. "We have three seniors who started last year, and one of our seniors, Ryan Richter who starts, those guys have to take responsibility for that." If the Jaguars don't change, Littleton worries the future will not bode well for Flower Mound and other teams in the district will run them out of town. "It took me as the coach to give them a wake up call," he said. "And if the coach is having to be the guy that does that, that's [a problem]." The Jaguars though will be focusing on their next game against Hebron on Tuesday. "Great teams have great player leadership," Littleton said. "That's why we've had such great success here over the last four years we that have been here. We've had seniors who've shown great leadership are great leaders." Flower Mound finished the game ahead in the rest of the quarters, increasing their lead to one point at the end of the second quarter, 10 at the end of the third, and 20 points at the end of the game. Flower Mound will play away against Hebron on the 20th at 7:30 PM. © 2016 AM News Net. All rights reserved.
