Seattle Storm's Breanna Stewart Named Rookie of the MonthPosted 07/10/16, 10:49 AM CST
NEW YORK (AM News Net) – The Seattle Storm's Breanna Stewart was named WNBA Rookie of the Month presented by Samsung for June, the second month in a row according to a press release. "The WNBA Rookie of the Month and the Eastern and Western Conference Player of the Month awards are presented by Samsung and are part of the larger WNBA Performance Awards presented by Samsung program," the release says. "This marks the third consecutive season that Samsung, an official WNBA marketing partner, will present the WNBA’s highest individual honors, including the WNBA Most Valuable Player, WNBA Most Improved Player, WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year, WNBA Defensive Player of the Year and WNBA Rookie of the Year." Out of all WNBA players, Stewart led in rebounding. She also led rookies in scoring (19.5 ppg) and blocked shots (2.0 bpg). Last game against San Antonio, Stewart led her team in scoring with 21 points and 7 rebounds. This was the ninth consecutive game she earned double-digit points. “She’s got a very, very passionate fire burning within her, and it doesn’t express itself as it might in some other players externally, but she is as competitive as anybody I’ve ever coached," Seattle head coach Jenny Boucek said after the last game against the Stars. "She can do a little bit of everything." Coach Boucek explained that Stewart is a valuable asset to the team due to her competitive attitude. "She just wants to win, and she’s not in any way self-centered in that way where it has to be scoring or it has to be numbers or this and that," Coach Boucek said. "She literally will do whatever, and she makes winning all over the floor, so we’re excited to grow with her.” The full press release with more stats for Breanna Stewart can be read here. © 2016 AM News Net.
