NORMAN (AM News Net) – The Oklahoma Softball coaching staff has been voted the national D1 coaching staff of the year per announcement by the National Fastpitch Association today. Head coach Patty Gasso finished the season by bringing home the Sooners' third WCWS champions title and a 57-8 record. "A 2012 NFCA Hall of Fame inductee, [Patty] Gasso just completed her 22nd season at the helm of the OU program," an OU press release stated. "She owns a career collegiate coaching record of 1246-372-3 (.770) with an overall mark of 1085-313-2 (.776) at the University of Oklahoma. She ranks seventh among active coaches (min. 5 years) and ninth all-time (min. 10 years) in winning percentage, while her win total is 14th all-time and ninth among active coaches." Oklahoma won the 2016 WCWS series over Auburn after a 2-1 win. Other accomplishments for the Sooners include being ranked first of the top D1 teams by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and Oklahoma sophomore pitcher Paige Parker unseating Erica Romero in victories to lead the nation with 38 wins.
