OKLAHOMA CITY (AM News Net) – Texas Tech and Iowa State started off the last day of the Big 12 Championship on Saturday. Both teams, having lost their most recent games without scoring any runs, were looking to prove themselves in a final bout of competition. At the end of a nervous seventh inning, the Raiders ultimately proved victorious with a 1-0 win. Texas Tech's Kierra Miles started off with a bang, hitting the ball to right field for two bases on her first at-bat. While the Cyclones managed to keep the Raiders at bay for an inning, stolen bases in the top of the second caused confusion for Iowa State, and allowed Tech's Kaylee Strickland to run home. Texas Tech switched pitchers from Mattison Maisel, who did not strike out any batters, to Cheyene Powell, who struck out one. The Cyclones kept Emma Hylen in the circle all game, striking out four. In the bottom of the seventh, the Cyclones attempted to rally after Sami Williams doubled to second base with a hit to center field, giving Iowa State runners on second and third. Texas Tech responded with intentionally walking Talyn Lewis to try and maximize chances of forcing an out. Offensively, both teams stranded runners when bases were loaded. The game ended as the Cyclones attempted to tie, but sophomore Kaylee Bosworth was forced out at first. More college sports coverage can be found here. © 2017 AM News Net. All rights reserved.
