FSU Softball Makes Comeback Against UCLAposted 06/04/16
OKLAHOMA CITY (AM News Net) – The Seminoles, already losing one of their games, managed to save themselves with an 8-4 win over UCLA in the Women’s College World Series. Originally down 4-0 after the Bruins hit a grand slam in the first inning, Florida managed to hit back, getting on the board with a home run from junior Alex Powers. “[I’m] very proud of our team today,” said FSU head coach Lonni Alameda. “Obviously, [I’m] very excited about the win, but I think as a coaching staff I’m more proud of the process that they took today, pitch by pitch. And to have a come-from-behind rally is huge.” Powers, who finished 4-4 at the plate, was not perturbed that they were down by four in the beginning. “And we know we were down four,” Powers said. “But still, one swing of the bat at a time can change the game. I think that’s what it was, just knowing that each pitch was really important to our success.” Powers has had 16 home runs this year, “I was just trying to put the ball in play and put it somewhere hard where [the Bruins] weren’t,” she said. “The rest just kind of falls into place. At the end, the Seminoles improved to 54-9 this year, along with this being the most runs the Seminoles have ever scored in a WCWS game. More photos can be found here. © 2016 AM News Net.
