OKLAHOMA CITY (AM News Net) – The Oklahoma Sooners mopped up competition Friday night to conclude the first day of the Big 12 Softball Championships. The Sooners, trailblazing through the tournament for a shot at a fifth Big 12 Championship victory, defeated Texas Tech 8-0. with half of their runs resulting from home-runs. Despite star pitcher of the year Paige Parker sitting out for some rest, the Sooners had no problem routing the Raiders. Sophomore Caleigh Clifton started the route with a home-run in the first inning. Nicole Mendes was next later on with another bomb to outside the fence, bringing the score to 3-0. Immediately after that, Clifton hit another home-run, the second of hers that game, to have a four run lead. The Raiders could not stop the bleeding, and in the top of the seventh, Oklahoma sophomore Sydney Romero hit yet another home-run. Romero had already hit a home-run as well that day against Texas. The Sooners were clearly dominant on the field. While Texas Tech only managed to record two hits, Oklahoma managed eight. Defensively, the Sooners made no errors; the Raiders made one. Oklahoma will play against rival Oklahoma State tomorrow in the final game of the championship. More college sports coverage can be found here. © 2017 AM News Net. All rights reserved.
